Jongno Hotels: Not the Station, But What Sits Next to It
Three Jongno hotels compared. Each sits 280–370m from a subway station, so the station decides nothing — what you meet outside does. Check-out times differ by an hour.

In Seoul, proximity to a subway station usually decides a booking. In Jongno it does not — the three hotels below sit 280m, 350m and 370m from a station, which is effectively the same.
So what does decide it? What you meet on stepping outside.

Hotels
- Hotel Atrium Seoul Jongno

Check current rate on Agoda - Koreana Hotel
170m to Cheonggyecheon, 320m to Deoksugung, 370m to Gwanghwamun Station. The building dates from 1972 — and reviews keep saying the rooms are two to three times the size of newer hotels at the same price.

All three sit within a kilometre or two of each other. Walkable between, but the direction you head in the evening changes.
Which way you walk
- Insadong, Bukchon and Gyeongbokgung — Nine Tree Insadong. Jogyesa Temple is 120m away, and Anguk Station is on line 3, which connects Gyeongbokgung and Bukchon directly. Reviews repeatedly mention a passage at the back leading out into Insadong
- Gwanghwamun, Deoksugung and City Hall — Koreana Hotel. Cheonggyecheon is 170m and Deoksugung 320m, with both Gwanghwamun and City Hall stations walkable. At 900m it is also the closest of the three to Myeongdong
- Gwangjang Market and Jongmyo — Hotel Atrium Seoul Jongno. The market — Seoul’s best-known street-food market — is 220m away, so dinner needs no planning, and Jongmyo Shrine is across the road
Rooms for three or more — a Jongno trait
All three list room types for parties of three or more, which separates Jongno from Myeongdong and Gangnam.
| Hotel | Multi-person types |
|---|---|
| Nine Tree Insadong | Quad Suite · Family Kids Suite · Standard Triple — one review describes two washbasins and two toilets |
| Koreana Hotel | Quadruple Room · Family Bunk Room · Premier Family Room — some types include bicycle hire |
| Hotel Atrium Seoul Jongno | Junior Suite for four adults · Family Junior Suite (three beds, breakfast included) |
Free-child ranges are narrow, though — Nine Tree ages 1–2, Koreana ages 0–1, Atrium none at all. Having rooms for a family does not mean the children stay free, so enter ages and occupancy before comparing totals.
Check-out differs by an hour
Atrium checks out at 11am; the other two at noon. If you want the final morning, factor it in — though Atrium does hold luggage on the day after check-out, per reviews.
If facilities decide it
This is where the three differ most.
- Nine Tree Insadong — a free 24-hour gym, a convenience store and drugstore inside the building, and luggage lockers
- Koreana Hotel — a sauna, coin laundry, microwave and kitchenware. Reviews repeatedly say the rooms run two to three times larger than newer hotels at the same price (it is a 1972 building)
- Hotel Atrium Seoul Jongno — a restaurant, and nothing else. Its reviews say so directly
For time spent inside the hotel, the first two. For eating out and coming back to sleep, all three work much the same.
When Jongno is the wrong choice
- For shopping, Myeongdong — L7 Myeongdong is 110m from the station; conditions are compared in Myeongdong shopping street stays
- To shorten airport transfers, Seoul Station — Seoul Station and Namdaemun
- For Lotte World and Jamsil, Jamsil Lotte World stays
How this list is put together
- Verified distances to Jogyesa, Cheonggyecheon, Gwangjang Market, the subway and Myeongdong
- What sits outside the door — in Jongno the station has no discriminating power, so this does
- Check-out times, and the child age rules that change the total
- Which room types hold three or more people
- Complaints that recur rather than appear once
Distances come from Agoda property data, with the verification date on each hotel page. This is researched from booking sources rather than written from a stay, and it does not quote rates.
