Where to Stay Near Seoul Station — What the Airport Train Costs You on Foot

Facts checked: 2026-09-19

Choose Seoul Station when AREX or KTX timing matters more than neighbourhood atmosphere. Four Points is closest to the station, while Hotel MANU and Ramada reduce the walk toward Namdaemun and Myeongdong.

Book this area for a travel day, not for a stay. The airport train and the high-speed trains leave from one building, so this is where you sleep before an early flight, on the morning you carry on to Busan by KTX, or on the night you land late and want the shortest push with a suitcase. Days out from here are subway days — the palaces and the shopping streets are a ride rather than a walk.

The catch is the walk itself. The three hotels below stand within a few hundred metres of each other and each meets the station a different way: one is signposted from a numbered exit inside it, one reaches it along the elevated Seoullo 7017 walkway, and one gives a street walk of ten to fifteen minutes. And the one standing closest to the station is the furthest from Namdaemun Market and Myeongdong.

All three are measured to the same point — the KTX side of Seoul Station. Four Points also lists 290m to the station itself, but that is a different point in the booking data, so the table uses the KTX figure for all three. Read it against the market column and the order flips: the property that meets the station from inside it is the one furthest from Namdaemun Market and Myeongdong, at 1km and 1.5km against the Ramada’s 520m and the MANU’s 330m. The hotel that reaches the platform first reaches everything else last. So the question is not which one is nearest. It is which walk you will make more often across three or four days — the one to a train, or the one to dinner.

The lines out differ too, and on a wet evening that matters more than the metres. Four Points sits on Seoul Station itself. Hotel MANU is nearer Hoehyeon on Line 4 at 320m than it is to the rail station, and at Hoehyeon the lift down to the platforms is the single central one between Exits 4 and 5. The Ramada names City Hall on Line 2 and Seodaemun on Line 5 alongside Seoul Station. Three hotels in the same few blocks, three different ways out of the district.

The AREX express, the all-stop train and the city check-in desk at B2

Two different trains run to Incheon from here, and they are not interchangeable.

The express reaches Terminal 1 in 43 minutes and Terminal 2 in 51, from the platform seven levels down at B7. The first departure is 06:00, into Terminal 1 at 06:43; the last is 23:00. The timetable is the same on weekdays and holidays. Seats are reserved and tickets are sold at B2.

The all-stop train calls at every station, shares the B7 platforms, and sells tickets a level higher at B3 — which is also where the passage to Subway Lines 1 and 4 begins. Departures towards the airport start around 05:20 and run to midnight, but the board mixes services that terminate early at Geomam with those running through to Terminal 2, so read the destination rather than the next departure time.

The desk that changes the calculation is the city airport terminal at B2. For a same-day international departure from Incheon it will do check-in, bag drop and exit immigration before you board, and passengers who clear it use a dedicated channel at the airport. Check-in runs 05:20 to 19:00 with last acceptance at 18:50, immigration 05:30 to 19:00, and it closes three hours before a Terminal 1 departure and three hours twenty before Terminal 2. Two conditions decide whether it is any use to you: you need an express ticket, scanned at the gate, and oversized bags are refused.

Put those together and an early flight looks different from how a distance makes it look. If the 06:00 express is early enough for your departure, the whole check-in can happen at B2 before you leave the station. If it is not, you are on an all-stop train from around 05:20 — and that ticket does not open the desk.

Trains out of the city leave from the same complex: the airport railway’s own station record lists the interchange here as Subway Lines 1 and 4 and the Gyeongbu Line, which is the KTX line towards Busan. That, rather than the distance to Incheon, is what this area is actually best at. For the airport figures district by district, see Seoul and the airport.

The walk with a suitcase — Exit 12, Exit 3, and the walkway

Inside the airport railway station the vertical part is solved: it lists ten lifts and 28 escalators, and every level from the B7 platforms up to ground is served by both. What varies is the last few hundred metres, and each hotel handles it differently.

Four Points publishes its own step-by-step route. From the express platform at B7 it climbs by escalator through B6, B5, B3, B2 and B1 to ground level, with stairs at two points, following signs for Exit 15 and then for Exit 12, and enters the building at basement level; the lobby is on the 19th floor. One door on that route is marked closed from 23:00 to 06:00, and the hotel’s own instruction for those hours is to take the stairs up to B1 or use Exit 12 instead — which is exactly the window a dawn departure falls into. Exit 12 is also the only exit on the Line 4 side that the rail accessibility record gives a lift down to the platforms. Reviews repeatedly describe the covered link and staying dry in the rain; several of the same reviews say the underground walk is long, and one says the street route is quicker in good weather.

Train noise is the other half of the same fact — the building stands beside the tracks. Four reviews raise it, one of them putting it at a train every five to ten minutes at night, and a fifth mentions the reputation and says the trains did not wake them. Read the link and the noise as one package rather than as a pro and a con.

Hotel MANU does not use a station exit at all. It connects directly onto Seoullo 7017, the elevated walkway that runs above street level into the Seoul Station forecourt, and the tourism board’s accessibility entry puts the station five minutes away along it, non-stop, with a step-free hotel entrance. The walkway itself is open around the clock. Coming the other way from the subway, you reach it by the lift at Seoul Station Exit 2 on Line 1 or at Hoehyeon Exit 4 on Line 4. Reviews repeatedly describe walking the elevated route through to the station, and one puts it at about ten minutes rather than five. Two things to know before relying on it: one review reports the second-floor link from the hotel onto the walkway shut very early in the morning, so you leave at street level and climb the steps to the overpass instead, and another says a suitcase makes the walk harder than a backpack does.

The Ramada names Exit 3 on Line 1 and gives it as a ten- to fifteen-minute walk. On the Line 1 side the accessibility record puts a lift beside each of Exits 1, 2, 3 and 4, so Exit 3 is a step-free start. The hotel also lists the Incheon airport limousine, route 6702, stopping at a stop named after it, and one review mentions the same bus. What is not published is the route itself — whether it crosses a main road at a crossing or uses an underpass — so treat the ten to fifteen minutes as street walking until you have checked it.

If you are heading for the market rather than a train, the station’s exit list puts Namdaemun Market and Sungnyemun at Exit 4, and the Toegye-ro direction at Exit 7.

What this area is not — an evening

Seoul Station is a transport interchange with an office district beside it. Two reviews of the Ramada note that places nearby close at weekends because the surrounding blocks are offices. Nothing here resembles the density of Myeongdong, where the shopping street starts at the door, or Hongdae, where the evening genuinely runs late.

Hongdae is also nearer both airports and sits on the same airport railway, so if you are not taking a train out of the city, look there before you settle here. Seoul Station wins on KTX and on having no transfer at all — not on airport distance. The figures behind that are in Seoul and the airport.

For the opposite kind of stay — one that never leaves its own block — see where to stay in Jamsil, which has no airport train at all.

The three are not interchangeable

  • Four people in one room — of the three, only the Ramada. It lists a Premier Quadruple, an Atrium Family Suite and a Premier Family Suite, and three reviews describe rooms with a kitchen sink and a washing machine, which is unusual in central Seoul. Four Points lists a Deluxe Corner Family; Hotel MANU has a family twin and a triple, and one review says the triple leaves almost no gap between the beds.
  • Children and teenagers — Four Points counts guests aged 14 and over as adults, with extra beds chargeable. Hotel MANU does not offer free child stays. The Ramada does not publish a child policy. Check the age rules before comparing totals, because they move the number more than the room rate band does.
  • Room size against location — Hotel MANU is an 80-room property where reviews repeatedly call the rooms small. It is also the one with the market on its doorstep, a convenience store at 150m and a clinic at 290m. Reviews of the Ramada run the other way: spacious rooms come up again and again, and one review calls the fittings dated.
  • Guest scores — Four Points 8.6 overall and 9.0 on location across 8,121 reviews; Hotel MANU 8.4 and 8.9 across 5,753; the Ramada 8.1 and 8.6 across 6,756.
  • Travelling with a dog — the Ramada lists a pet-friendly Premier Twin separately, with the room name setting the limit at one dog under 10kg. Conditions apply, so confirm them when you book.

How properties get onto this list

  • Verified distances to Seoul Station, the nearest metro station, Namdaemun Market and Myeongdong
  • The exit and route each property publishes, and whether the station’s accessible-route record puts a lift beside that exit
  • Both airport distances, since this area is usually chosen for a transfer
  • Occupancy by room type and the age at which a child is billed as an adult
  • Drawbacks that recur across guest reviews — train noise here is a pattern, not a one-off

Distances are straight-line between map points in the booking data, not walking routes, and the verification date is on each hotel page. Where a property has no published distance to the station the cell is left empty. Station levels, train times and the city check-in desk come from the airport railway’s own pages, and the exits and lifts from the rail accessibility record and each hotel’s published directions. This is research compiled before booking, not a first-hand stay report, and nothing here is a rate quote.

For every Seoul area side by side, see Where to Stay in Seoul.

Travelling with children changes the room calculation, so continue to the Seoul family-room comparison. If an early departure makes breakfast relevant, only the properties with a verified signal appear in Seoul hotels with breakfast.
