Choose Myeongdong if this is your first sightseeing-led trip
Myeongdong is the simpler base when each day starts north of the Han River. The three compared stays are all within 440m of the shopping street, so the difference between them is not the neighbourhood. It is the room and booking policy.

- The Grand Lotte Seoul adds a pool and lounge to the central position. Check whether the rate is in the Main Tower or Executive Tower and whether lounge access is actually included.
- L7 Myeongdong is 110m from Myeongdong Station. It is the direct location choice, not the facilities choice: no pool or bathtub is listed.
The cost of Myeongdong is arrival day. The airport train does not stop in the district, so luggage usually comes through Seoul Station or Hongik University Station, or by an airport bus whose current stop and timetable should be checked before travel.
Choose Hongdae if the airport and the evening lead the plan
Hongdae’s three stays sit 200–370m from Hongik University Station. The direct airport-rail connection removes a transfer, while the surrounding streets keep operating after the old-city sightseeing areas have begun to close.
- Mercure Ambassador Seoul Hongdae has a confirmed three-single-bed type, the practical distinction for three adults. It does not list free child stays.
- L7 Hongdae is the facilities option here, with an outdoor pool, lounge and several room layouts. Confirm seasonal pool operation before choosing it for that reason.
- RYSE, Autograph Collection works when two double beds suit the party and a later checkout matters. No two-single twin is confirmed.
The trade-off is repeated every sightseeing day: Myeongdong shopping street is roughly 5.4–5.6km from these properties, and the palaces are not a morning walk. If the room needs silence but the street does too, Hongdae is the wrong fit even when hotel reviews say their rooms are well insulated.
