Hoi An Ancient Town Hotels — Shops at the Gate, or a Quiet Block Back
Choosing a hotel inside Hoi An's walking radius. The night market runs 430m to 1.1km out, and free child stays end at four or five at some addresses and eleven at others.

People stay in Hoi An for one reason above the rest: the Old Town once the lanterns are lit. Day trips have to drive out during that window. Stay inside the walking radius and you walk home instead. That swap is what this area sells.
But “walkable” covers a lot of ground. The night market sits anywhere from 430m to 1.1km away depending on the address — the far end is more than two and a half times the near one, and that shows up every evening. Child policies split too: free stays end at four or five at some of these addresses and at eleven at others, so the same walk can produce a different total.

Hotels
- Allegro Hoi An
Three hundred and fifty metres to the Japanese Covered Bridge, 480m to the night market, and an entry room of 47sqm. Walkable hotels usually shrink the room to buy the address — this one does not.

Quan Cong Temple at 250m, the night market at 870m, and a child policy that runs free to age eleven. The loft rooms split living and sleeping across a staircase, which suits some groups and rules out others.

Who the walking radius suits — and who it does not
It suits you if the evenings are the trip: the night market, the riverfront, the lantern boats, the restaurant streets, and a walk back. The shorter the stay, the more this area is worth, because a one- or two-night stop has no time to spend on transfers.
Three cases where it does not.
First, small children or anyone who finds walking hard. Parts of the Old Town are closed to traffic and the lanes are narrow. Reviews mention how much ground the old quarter covers and how much walking it involves. If pushing a stroller 2km and back every evening does not sound workable, a beach property with a shuttle may genuinely be easier.
Second, if a quiet night comes first. Being 430m from the night market also means sleeping beside the busiest evening stretch in town. Reviews report early-morning motorbike noise in road-facing rooms.
Third, if you have a car or plan to spend the day at a pool. Access and parking inside the old quarter are awkward, and the pools here are not the scale of a beach resort.
What you put first: shops, floor area, the old quarter, or a child’s age
Same area, different answers. In order of distance to the night market:
- If you want the shops to start at the gate — Bel Marina Hoi An Resort is 430m from the night market and 530m from the Japanese Covered Bridge, on the An Hoi side where the market sets up. It is the closest here, and its 9.5 location score is the best in this area, level with Hoi An Historic. 202 rooms with pools at ground level and on the roof, so daytime works on site too. Against that, reviews repeatedly describe the site as confusing to navigate, and check-in is a late 3pm.
- If you want the address without shrinking the room — Allegro Hoi An is 350m from the Japanese Covered Bridge and the Cantonese Assembly Hall, 480m from the night market. Across 93 rooms the smallest is 47sqm, with a 94sqm connecting room and a 100sqm connecting suite above that for four or more sharing. Built 2017, cleanliness 9.5 and service 9.6. Against that, free child stays stop at four, with a nightly charge from five.
- If you want to sleep inside the old quarter itself — Hoi An Historic Hotel is 300m from the Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, 390m from Central Market and 690m from the night market. Everything sits inside 700m. At 150 rooms and four-star it is the lowest price tier here, with a pool, tennis court and kids club. The building dates from 1990, and reviews return to water pressure and bed comfort.
- If you are bringing a school-age child — Almanity Hoi An is 250m from Quan Cong Temple and 870m from the night market, and children stay free up to eleven — among the widest bands here, with breakfast for ages 6 to 11 at half the adult price. Loft room types split sleeping and living across a staircase, and a hospital at 110m and a shop at 260m keep the daily routine short. Against that, reviews repeatedly report early-morning motorbike noise on the road side.
- If you want a quiet evening — Little Riverside Hoi An is 1.1km out, a block back along the river, with all 42 rooms at 46sqm or more. By build year 2018 is the most recent in this area, and it scores 9.5 for cleanliness and 9.6 for service. The cost is a 15-minute walk each way.
Put simply: Bel Marina for access, Allegro for floor area, Historic for being in the middle of it, Almanity for the child’s fare, Little Riverside for room condition and quiet. No single address carries all of them.
Where the child policy splits inside the same walk
The walk barely changes; the child’s fare does. With a school-age child this one line reorders the list.
- Free up to eleven — Almanity and Little Riverside, though both charge for breakfast from six: half the adult price at Almanity, 250,000 VND a day at Little Riverside.
- Free up to five — Bel Marina (ages 6 to 11 are 450,000 VND a night with breakfast) and Hoi An Historic (ages 6 to 11 are 300,000 VND a night).
- Free up to four — Allegro. Ages 5 to 8 are 250,000 VND a night, and from nine a guest needs a paid extra bed.
Free-stay bands and extra-bed rules both attach to the room type, not the property. Enter the exact ages and compare totals rather than nightly rates.
We do not treat An Hoi as a separate area
Some listings split off the An Hoi island where the night market sets up. We do not. One bridge separates it from the old quarter, and Bel Marina — which is on that side — is 530m from the Japanese Covered Bridge. What you can reach on foot and what you can do in the evening are the same, so there is nothing to split.
Compared with the beach
Giving up the walk buys something real. Some of the Cua Dai resorts have a private beach on the grounds and all of them have larger pools, and Da Nang International Airport is about 40 to 42 minutes by car from there versus 43 to 49 from the Old Town. What it costs is the evening: the night market is 4.3 to 5.1km out, so going in means a car or a shuttle every time.
There is a middle option. Wyndham Garden Hoi An sits 220m from the sand, and reviews repeatedly mention free shuttles to the Old Town and An Bang. If small children make the walking radius impractical but you still want the evenings, that is the realistic compromise. How the beach properties split on shuttle timetables and beach access is taken apart in Cua Dai Beach, Hoi An.
The two areas are compared in Where to Stay in Hoi An.
How this list is chosen
- Measured distance to the night market and the Japanese Covered Bridge — in this area that number decides the evening
- Distance to the old quarter’s main sights: Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, Central Market, Cantonese Assembly Hall
- Free-stay age bands — inside this one walking radius they end anywhere from four to eleven, which moves the total
- Room configurations and extra-bed rules by group size
- Build and renovation years — at this price tier they move satisfaction more than anything else
- Points reviews raise repeatedly
