Cua Dai Beach, Hoi An — What Decides Your Evening Is the Shuttle, Not the Sand

Facts checked: 2026-09-26

Hoi An's Cua Dai resorts sit 90 to 330m from the sand but 4.3 to 5.1km from the night market. Evenings mean a car, so shuttle terms decide more than beach distance does.

East of town, along Lac Long Quan, the resorts line up behind Cua Dai Beach. The sand is anywhere from 90m to 330m away in a straight line. The night market is 4.3 to 5.1km away. Days end on the beach and in the pool; evenings in the Old Town are a car ride, every time.

Which means the thing that actually varies here is not the walk to the sand. How you get out in the evening is different at each property: free shuttles plus free bicycles at one, a free shuttle the resort lists at eight trips a day at another, three reservation-only departures a day at a third, and a free scheduled shuttle with no published timetable at the last. Over three nights that gap does more to your trip than 240m of beach.

Who Cua Dai suits — and who it does not

It suits you if the daytime is the trip. Beach in the morning, pool in the afternoon, dinner mostly on site. It also suits families with small children or anyone who cannot walk far — staying inside the Old Town means covering 1 to 2km on foot every evening.

The airport is closer from here, which surprises people. Da Nang International Airport is listed at 40 to 42 minutes by car, against 43 to 49 minutes from the walkable Old Town addresses, because the beach road sits nearer the route down.

Three cases where it does not suit.

First, a one- or two-night stop. If the lantern-lit Old Town is why you came and every trip in needs a car, a short stay loses too much to the round trip. Reviews at Victoria put the Old Town shuttle at about 20 minutes each way.

Second, if you plan to eat out. There is no real walkable strip. Reviews mention a spa and a few restaurants and shops opposite Palm Garden, a mini-mart and a restaurant next to Wyndham, local places about ten minutes’ walk from Victoria, and a quiet riverside village behind Silk Sense — but nothing you would browse the way you browse the night market. The nearest pharmacy is 1.4 to 2km out.

Third, if you are booking for sea swimming specifically. Reviews include swimming off the private beach, not being able to go in during the rainy season, and simply walking the sand. It varies by season, so it is not something to lock a booking to.

The shuttle is the real difference

The night market distances all fall inside an 880m band. What differs is how you cross it.

  • Wyndham Garden Hoi An — reviews repeatedly describe free shuttles to both the Old Town and An Bang Beach, alongside free bicycle hire. The catch is that departures run at fixed times and reviewers describe the timetable differently, so if you are aiming for the lanterns, check the schedule when you book. The Wyndham property page lists local shuttles and a hotel vehicle but publishes no timetable. This is the lightest evening logistics on the strip.
  • Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort — the resort’s own site lists a complimentary shuttle to the Ancient Town and the beach (eight trips a day on one page, “several times per day” on another), plus free bicycles with no time limit. Departure times are not published, and one review describes asking reception in advance for a seat, so treat it as a scheduled service rather than one you call up. One review wished it ran more often. The night market is 4.3km, the shortest ride out here.
  • Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort — the resort’s site confirms a shuttle to the Ancient Town but gives no timetable. Reviews describe it running three times a day, by reservation, about 20 minutes each way. One reviewer took the shuttle boat instead and found it took an hour. Your evenings run to a timetable.
  • Palm Garden Beach Resort — the resort’s site lists a free scheduled shuttle to the centre of the Ancient Town and free bicycles. The timetable is not published there, so how many departures there are and when the last one comes back are still things to confirm when you book. Reviews add that ride-hailing is easy to get despite the distance from town.

Bicycles do not solve the evening. That is a 9 to 10km round trip to the night market. All four offer bicycles — free at Palm Garden and Silk Sense by the resorts’ own listings, free at Wyndham by repeated reviews, terms not stated at Victoria — but treat them as a daytime option.

Stepping onto sand versus crossing something first

A property with “Beach” in the name is not necessarily on the beach — and a “beach” line in the facility list does not settle it either. One address on this strip carries that line while fronting a river.

  • Victoria — 90m, the closest here. Reviews describe two private beach sections with the pool between them, and a lifeguard on duty. The resort’s site lists the private beach as open 6:00 to 22:00.
  • Palm Garden — 140m to Cua Dai Beach, with a private beach listed among the facilities. The resort’s site describes it as lifeguarded, with parasols and loungers. Reviews describe good sand on the private stretch and food ordered to the sun loungers.
  • Wyndham — listed at 200m to Cua Dai Beach, and 220m in the property’s own summary. It is not beachfront. The Wyndham property page itself puts the hotel across the street from the sand, and reviews mention using the beach club pool across that road as well as a limited sea view because of the building in front.
  • Silk Sense — 330m, the furthest out. A beach appears in its facility list, but what the grounds actually front is the river. Reviews describe walking to a quiet stretch of sand nearby rather than stepping onto one.

The spread is 240m in a straight line. What actually changes here is whether you step off the grounds onto sand, or cross a road or a village lane first.

Terrace Café, Ocean Restaurant, L’Annam and Areca — dinner without the drive

On the nights you do not take the shuttle, dinner is the resort. What each one publishes on its own site:

  • Palm Garden has the widest choice: Terrace Café Restaurant from 6:30 to 22:00, Colibri (Italian) from 10:00 to 22:00, Chu Cha (Japanese, teppanyaki) from 12:00 to 22:00, Breeze Beach Bar until 20:00 and Contino Bar until midnight. Five venues means a three-night stay without repeating a menu.
  • Wyndham lists Ocean Restaurant from 6:00 to 22:00, a Pool Bar from 10:00 to 23:00 and room service from 10:00 to 22:00. Reviews mention lunch at the pool bar and the mini-mart next door.
  • Victoria lists L’Annam Restaurant from 6:00 to 22:00, three bars (Elephant, Cham, Faifo) on the same hours, and in-room dining until 22:00. Reviews split on the food: pizza and burgers by the pool come up warmly, while one review found the breakfast egg station understaffed and another did not rate the barbecue buffet.
  • Silk Sense lists Areca Restaurant from 6:30 to 22:00, plus Nipa Bistro and in-room dining without published hours. Two reviews mention a complimentary Vietnamese set dinner; it does not appear on the resort’s site, so treat it as a promotion to confirm rather than a fixture.

Each resort’s main restaurant lists a 22:00 close, so a late shuttle back does not leave a kitchen open. Plan the Old Town nights around eating in town.

Facilities, evening logistics, quiet, or a pool attached to the room

  • If you plan to spend whole days on the property — Palm Garden Beach Resort is the largest at 216 rooms and, at 9.1 across 4,520 reviews, the highest-scoring on this list. A free kids’ playroom listed at 9:00 to 22:00, an outdoor playground and two tennis courts, with villas up to a 3-bedroom beachfront villa with private pool at 150sqm — the widest choice here for larger groups. Against that, the buildings date from 2005 (renovated 2017) and reviews mention their age; the night market is 4.6km.
  • If you want a beach base and still want the Old Town — Wyndham Garden Hoi An runs 107 rooms and is the address whose reviews repeatedly describe free shuttles in both directions you want — the Old Town and An Bang Beach. A 56sqm quadruple family room with two queen beds and an 80sqm family suite with a connecting door make it workable for a family of four or five. Against that, its location score of 8.3 is the lowest on this strip, and reviews raise weak water pressure and construction nearby.
  • If you want a quiet beach for a few days — Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort is 109 rooms, closest to the sand at 90m, and reviews consistently call it uncrowded. A tennis court and a kids’ zone give you reasons to stay put; reviews also mention billiards and table tennis, and one says rackets were lent free. Against that, the night market is 5.1km — the furthest here — and the buildings date from 2001 (renovated 2011), with reviews noting dim room lighting.
  • If you want the pool attached to the room — Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort is the smallest at 81 rooms and sells room types with a private pool — on the booking listing, the Suite, the Sense Suite and the two-bedroom River View Villa, though the official site puts a pool on the Presidential Suite rather than the villa, so confirm when booking. Built 2017, and at 4.3km the closest to the Old Town. The main pool is listed as a sea-salt infinity pool, and two reviews mention floating easily in it. Against that, it is not beachfront, and reviews describe the private pools as small, with guests ending up in the main pool anyway.

Put simply: Palm Garden for facilities and group size, Wyndham for getting out in the evening, Victoria for quiet and proximity to the sand, Silk Sense for a pool of your own. Location scores run Palm Garden 8.9, Victoria 8.6, Silk Sense 8.5, Wyndham 8.3 — the closest to the beach is not the highest rated for location.

Child ages and room sizes move the total

The child policies are not the same, and this is where a family booking swings.

  • Silk Sense — children stay free up to 11 on existing bedding, with breakfast for ages 6 to 11 at 220,000 VND a night.
  • Wyndham — free stays end at 5; ages 6 to 11 pay a surcharge even on existing bedding.
  • Victoria — free stays cover up to age 5 only. The extra-bed policy states that guests aged 6 and over count as adults and need a paid extra bed.
  • Palm Garden — the resort’s terms list a free cot up to age 2 and an extra bed for ages 6 to 11 at 750,000 VND a night; check the existing-bedding terms on the booking screen.

With a primary-school-age child that single line changes the total. Put the real ages into each search and compare the totals rather than the headline.

Room sizes split the same way. Palm Garden runs to a 104sqm two-bedroom ocean suite, a 124sqm family suite and 150sqm three-bedroom villas. Wyndham has the 56sqm quadruple and the 80sqm connecting family suite. Silk Sense publishes no floor areas, but reviews describe the Family Garden View as two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living area and a garden, and a two-bedroom villa sits above it. At Victoria the largest room is a 63sqm oceanfront suite and the rest sit at 34 to 53sqm, so four in one room is a tight fit.

Compared with the Old Town walking radius

This area is the exact opposite of the other one in town. Over there the night market sits 430m to 1.1km away, so you walk out after the lanterns go up and walk back. What those addresses do not have is sand at the gate or a resort-scale pool, and the airport runs 43 to 49 minutes.

One or two nights favours the walking radius; three or more nights of actual rest favours the beach. If you want both, split the stay — and if you have to pick one, a property with a shuttle like Wyndham is the compromise.

Inside that walking radius the distance to the night market still varies more than twofold, and the free-stay ages split as well; both are set out in Hoi An Ancient Town: staying inside walking distance. If you are still deciding between staying in Hoi An and day-tripping from Da Nang, Where to Stay in Hoi An comes first.

How this list is chosen

  • Measured distance to the Hoi An night market — out here that number sets how you travel in the evening
  • Shuttle and bicycle terms — free or paid, where to, how many times a day. This reverses the decision
  • Distance to the sand, and whether the private beach is actually on the property
  • Distance and drive time to Da Nang International Airport
  • Free-stay age ranges and realistic room configurations by group size
  • Points that reviews raise repeatedly
