Sungsan Marina Hotel

Facts verified: 2026-08-18 · Updated: 2026-09-27

Choose this for the most recently refurbished rooms in Seongsan — a 2014 building redone in 2024, with several types facing Sunrise Peak. But reviews split hard: Superior rooms draw complaints about road noise and size, Deluxe rooms draw the opposite. Hot water running out after about 30 minutes is a repeated report.

Location & getting around — Ojo-ri, facing the peak

The hotel is on Goseongojo-ro in Seongsan-eup. Seongsan Ilchulbong is 2.4km away, Seopjikoji 3.4km, and Jeju International Airport 39.8km straight-line — about 65 minutes by car per the property.

2.4km is a viewing distance, not a walking one. Reviews describe photographing the sunrise over Sunrise Peak from the room window, seeing the peak and grazing horses outside, and calling the morning sun over the peak the highlight of the trip. The position is built around looking at Sunrise Peak rather than climbing it.

A rental car is assumed. There are a few things within reach on foot though — reviews repeatedly mention a small convenience store in the basement and restaurants and a bakery within walking distance, describing the area as a quiet local neighbourhood in the evening.

Rooms & occupancy — the same hotel, opposite verdicts

Built in 2014 and refurbished in 2024, with 215 rooms — the most recently updated building of the three Seongsan properties here. Check-in is 3pm and check-out 11am.

Listed types are Deluxe Ocean, Ocean Suite, Deluxe Triple, Standard Double and Standard Twin, with Mountain Deluxe, Mountain Suite, Side Deluxe and a Penthouse appearing in the facility data.

Superior versus Deluxe

Reviews of this hotel land at opposite ends, and one of them explains why. A guest who stayed in both wrote it plainly: the Superior has heavy road noise and a small room; the Deluxe, facing the mountain with Sunrise Peak visible to one side, is excellent. Had they only had the Superior, they would remember this as the worst hotel of the trip. Having had the Deluxe, they call it the best value in Jeju.

On a results page these are just two prices for one hotel. Here, picking the cheapest type is closer to picking a different property. Confirm Deluxe or above, and check whether a Mountain or Ocean label is attached.

Occupancy and bathroom

Four people sharing one room comes up repeatedly — a family of four finding it fine, four guests describing the room and bathroom as large. Deluxe Triple and suite types mean you may not need to split across rooms.

The bathroom draws a specific complaint. There is no door separating the toilet from the shower, and the shower enclosure is frosted glass through which silhouettes are visible — awkward when several people share. Given this is a hotel people book precisely to share, factor it in. Some types have a bathtub on the balcony, which attracts hygiene complaints.

Hot water

The most repeated issue. After roughly 30 minutes of use, hot water reportedly stops for an hour or more. One review describes four people showering in turn, the third finding none, waiting an hour and still washing in cold water — with the note that it was fine again the next morning.

Other reviews report plenty of hot water, and one says it did not matter in summer. With a group or a winter trip, stagger the showers.

Elsewhere: central heating held the room at a comfortable temperature with the air conditioning off, and insect screens allow airing the room. Against that, mosquitoes and moths getting in during summer, a loud air conditioner, and a stain on the bed linen.

Guest roomGuest room

Facilities — breakfast and a basement shop

The facility list covers a restaurant, buffet service, banquet space, a business centre and a shop. There is no pool and no gym.

Breakfast reviews well — described as substantial, tasty and clean. The small basement convenience store is named as a plus by more than one guest.

Staff comments run in two directions that are worth reading together: many describe them as friendly, while one specific review says responses are not especially fast, but problems do get properly resolved.

Despite the 2024 refurbishment, one review says the rooms look older than the photographs — while adding that the linen is clean and the room spacious. The refurbishment may not have reached every room evenly, which is another reason to confirm the type.

Overall the hotel scores 8.4, with a location rating of 8.9 — second to Co-op City among the three Seongsan properties here — across 5,112 reviews. Guest types are spread evenly across couples, solo travellers, groups, business guests and families with young children.

Best for

  • Wanting Sunrise Peak framed in the window at dawn
  • Four people sharing one room
  • Driving eastern Jeju and Seopjikoji

Not ideal if

  • Several of you shower one after another — hot water is a recurring complaint
  • You expect an enclosed shower — reviews say the glass is frosted, not private
  • You have no car and want to walk to Sunrise Peak — it is 2.4km

Compared & alternatives — where this one sits among the three

The three Seongsan properties fall into two groups by distance to Sunrise Peak.

This property is one of the two you drive from. Only Co-op City, at 760m, is walkable, and there is no middle ground between it and the rest.

Between the two driving options, 2,400m and 2,430m are the same drive. The difference is inside the building. Sungsan Marina has the 2024 refurbishment and rooms that face Sunrise Peak; The Best Jeju Seongsan has ondol rooms, pet-friendly types and a coin laundry, with an outdoor pool in summer. For time spent inside, the latter; for the view out, this one.

For a full resort with a pool, sauna and kids’ club, Haevichi Hotel & Resort Jeju has 503 rooms in Pyoseon. For the rest of the island, conditions are set out in the Jeju neighbourhood guide.

Dining

Bottom line — one room type flips the verdict

What decides this stay is the room type, not the hotel. A 8.9 location score and a 2024 refurbishment are good conditions, and the view of Sunrise Peak is what this position is for. But reviews land at both worst and best, and one of them names the reason: Superior versus Deluxe.

Picking the cheapest type here is closer to picking a different hotel. Confirm Deluxe or above, with a Mountain or Ocean label attached.

And with four or more of you, stagger the showers. The hot water reports are a condition, not a preference.

FAQ

Which room type should I book?

This is the question that decides the stay. One review stayed in both and wrote that had they only had the Superior, they would remember this as the worst hotel of the trip — the Superior has significant road noise and a small room, while the Deluxe, facing the mountain with Sunrise Peak visible to one side, was the best value they found in Jeju. Listed types are Deluxe Ocean, Ocean Suite, Deluxe Triple, Standard Double and Standard Twin, with Mountain Deluxe, Mountain Suite, Side Deluxe and a Penthouse in the facility data. Do not book the cheapest type here — confirm Deluxe or above.

What is the hot water issue?

It is the most repeated complaint. Several reviews say that after about 30 minutes of hot water use it stops for an hour or so. One describes four people showering in sequence, with the third finding no hot water, waiting an hour and still ending up with a cold shower — while noting it was back to normal the next morning. Other reviews report plenty of hot water, so it likely varies by season and room, but with a larger group or a winter trip, stagger the showers.

Can I walk to Sunrise Peak?

Not really — it is 2.4km. Seopjikoji is 3.4km and Jeju International Airport 39.8km, about 65 minutes by car per the property. This position assumes a rental car. What it does give you is the view: several reviews describe photographing sunrise over Seongsan Ilchulbong from the room window. If walking to the peak is the point, Co-op City Hotel Seongsan is 760m from it.
