Donna Camilla Savelli
It fits when Trastevere evenings are the reason for the trip and you want a hotel rather than an apartment. It does not fit if you need to move around the city quickly — Termini at 3.3km is among the furthest here.

- 9.2 from 2,227 reviews — the higher-scoring of Trastevere's two hotels

- 3.3km to Termini and the airport train
- The Janiculum slope means the address is uphill from the lanes
Two hotels in the whole neighbourhood, and this is one
Every guide to Rome recommends Trastevere for the evening. Almost none of them mention what happens when you try to book a hotel there.
We searched 414 Rome properties through the booking data, kept the ones inside 3km of the centre with a review sample worth reading, and Trastevere returned two hotels. Not two good ones — two. Everything else on that side of the river is apartments, guest houses and B&Bs carrying fewer than thirty reviews each.
So this is not a shortlist. It is half of the available choice, if what you want is a front desk, a lift and a property you can compare on the same terms as the rest of this site.
| Distance | |
|---|---|
| Pantheon | 1.5km |
| St Peter’s Basilica | 1.9km |
| Colosseum | 2.2km |
| Roma Termini | 3.3km |
| Fiumicino Airport | 21.2km |
The numbers are the standing Trastevere trade: the old city is a walk across the bridge, and the station is a journey. If you are day-tripping to Florence or Naples, this address argues with you every morning.
Rooms — 99 of them, in a converted convent
Doubles, triples and family rooms. In Trastevere that combination is genuinely useful — the alternative accommodation across the river is mostly apartments, which is where families end up by default.
The building is a 17th-century convent, and that changes what the rooms are: irregular shapes, thick walls, a cloister courtyard. None of it is what a modern four-star floor plan produces, and it is worth knowing before you arrive rather than after.
Two guests describe the rooms as roomy and two mention how quiet it is. The thick walls and the position up the hill are both doing work there.

Facilities — a restaurant and a business centre
Short list, and the building explains it. What guests raise instead is the quiet and the courtyard.
The one thing the reviews do not solve is the hill. Via Garibaldi climbs the Janiculum, so the hotel sits above the lanes where Trastevere’s restaurants are rather than among them. That is why it is quiet; it is also a walk back up at the end of the night. If the flat side is what you want, Hotel Ripa Roma is the neighbourhood’s other hotel.
Termini at 3.3km means the Leonardo Express is a bus or taxi first — from this side a direct taxi to Fiumicino is often simpler.

Best for
- Evenings in Trastevere without a river crossing
- Wanting a hotel where the neighbourhood offers almost none
- Families needing a triple or family room
Not ideal if
- You are moving around the city by train each day
- The Janiculum slope is a problem on foot
A convent, which changes what the rooms are
The building is a 17th-century convent on Via Garibaldi, converted. That is worth knowing before you arrive rather than after: converted religious buildings have irregular room shapes, thick walls and cloister courtyards, and none of that is what a modern four-star floor plan produces.
Guests seem to like the consequences. 9.2 across 2,227 reviews is the higher of Trastevere’s two, and within the sample cleanliness and staff each come up three times, with quiet and room size twice each. Two describe returning.
The one thing the reviews do not solve is the hill. Via Garibaldi climbs the Janiculum, so the hotel sits above the lanes where Trastevere’s restaurants are rather than among them. That is why it is quiet; it is also a walk back up at the end of the night.
Triples and family rooms are listed, which matters because the alternative accommodation in this neighbourhood — apartments — is usually where families end up by default.
We have not stayed here. These are patterns across the guest reviews on the booking page, read on the date below.
Before you book
- 99 rooms, four stars. Doubles, triples and family rooms are listed
- Check-in 15:00, check-out 12:00
- The airport train only runs from Termini, 3.3km away. From Trastevere a direct taxi to Fiumicino is often simpler (the Italy page compares them)
- City tax is charged at check-out and rises with the star rating, outside the rate you booked
- Restaurant and business centre are listed
The other Trastevere hotel is in Trastevere hotels; the six areas are compared in where to stay in Rome.
FAQ
Why are there only two hotels in Trastevere?
We searched 414 Rome properties and kept the ones inside 3km of the centre with a usable review sample. Trastevere returned two hotels. The rest of the accommodation there is apartments, guest houses and B&Bs with fewer than 30 reviews each — it is a neighbourhood people stay in without staying in a hotel.
What is the building?
A 17th-century convent on Via Garibaldi, converted into a hotel. That is why the room shapes and the courtyard read differently from a purpose-built property.
How do I get to the airport?
Termini is 3.3km, so the Leonardo Express means a bus or taxi first. Fiumicino itself is 21.2km, which is on the shorter side for this comparison.
